Karwar

Karwar is a city of 62,960 inhabitants, and is the capital of the North Kannada district in the state of Karnataka. Based on the number of inhabitants, the city falls within Class II (50,000 to 99,999 people). The city is located at lat 14°48′0 N, long 74°7′60 E, and lies at an altitude of 44 m above sea level.

According to the 2001 census, the population of Karwar totaled 62,960 persons, of whom 32,578 were males and 30,382 females. Children aged less than or equal to six years totaled 6,311, of whom 3,294 were males and 3,017 females. Finally, those who at least knew how to read and write totaled 50,402, of whom 27,548 were males and 22,854 females.
