Mapusa

Mapusa (in Konkani can also be written Mapuce, or Mhapsa Maps) is a town in North Goa in India. It is located 13km north of the capital MapusaPanaji. The city is the capital of the Bardez Taluka. It is located on the main highway NH-17, connecting Bombay to Trivandrum.

At the time of Portuguese colonization, the city was called Mapuce. Mapusa has a tropical climate with temperatures of between a maximum of 37°C in summer with high humidity and a minimum of 21°C in winter.

Mapusa is located near a major center of tourism Goanaise, the beaches of North Goa. This, near Mapusa is a tourist season period (October to January). Because of its downtown commercial, and its large residential population, Mapusa has a limited number of services and hotel for tourists. Mapusa has seen its business grow dramatically on Friday, the day of the traditional market.

The inhabitants of towns and villages around then come to Mapusa to sell their products. This exhibition includes many local products (unlike many fairs and market-oriented tourism) and specializes in both agricultural products such as vegetables, local fruits, spices, clothes and plants (mainly during the planting season of the monsoon).

Mapusa hosts some good educational institutions including St. Brittos, Saraswat Vidyalaya, New Goa High School, DMC (college).

According to the 2001 Indian census, Mapusa reached a population of 40,122 people. Men constitute 52% of the population and 48% are women. Mapusa has a literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average (59.5%): male literacy is 80%, and female literacy 73%. In Mapusa, 11% of the population is under 6 years old.
