Vasco SC football club

Vasco Sports Club is a football club from Vasco da Gama, the largest city (with about 100,000 residents) of the western Indian state of Vasco SC  football clubGoa. In 1951, named Clube de Desportos de Vasco da Gama it became an established club but was relegated at the end of the 2007/08 season for the second time in the top division of India, the I-League 1st Division.

The Tilak Maidan Stadium holds around 15,000 spectators. Later it was further extended to include a clubhouse. League games at the Vasco SC can hold 35,000 spectators. The Fatorda Jawarharlal Pandit Nehru Stadium in the neighboring town of Margao, houses local rivals Sporting Clube de Goa, a Portuguese branch of the Sporting Clube de Portugal, better known as Sporting Lisbon.

In the 50s and 60s, the most successful period of the club lay with various Cups and six-times winning the championship of Goa, which at that time was still a Portuguese colony. In 1998 the club qualified for the Goa Professional League and got to the end of the 1999/00 season for the first time. Vasco stayed there five years before again descending. The best rankings was 3rd place in both 2003 and 2004.
